Submatic allows you to offer a free trial for any membership/subscription template. When the free trial option is enabled all new sign ups will automatically start as a free trial. Alternatively you can configure a free trial to be triggered via Promo Code (only customers that provide the free trial promo code will receive the free trial). A free trial will convert into a paid plan if not cancelled before the end of the free trial term.
Enable a Free Trial
- Go to your Templates page
- Find the Template for which you want to enable a free trial. Click Manage > More Settings
- Under "Promo & Trial Settings" select "Yes" for the "Offer Free Trial" option
- Add free trial length by entering the number days/weeks/months.

Manage a Free Trial Subscription
For the most part free trials operate in the same way as paid subscriptions, though there are some exceptions. If a Template includes a "One Time Fee" or "Signup Bonus" those line items will not apply until the date on which the free trial converts into a paid subscription.
Unless cancelled, free trials automatically convert to paid plans on the trial end date. The free trial end date is noted at the top of the Subscription detail page and can be edited by clicking the "Adjust" link.
To convert a free trial into a paid plan immediately:
- Go to the Subscription Detail page
- Click Manage > Process Billing Now
- Click "Bill Now"
This will charge the customer the full amount due and end their free trial. Note that the next billing date will automatically adjust outward one billing cycle after this is completed. You may want to review to ensure that the next billing date that is displayed is your desired next billing date.
To disable automatic billing at the end of a free trial:
- Go to the Subscription Detail page
- Click Manage > Cancel
- Click "Yes"
- Select "Cancel On Next Renewal" and click "Confirm Cancellation".The free trial will remain active until the free trial end date, at which point it will be cancelled (and the customer will not be billed).
