A template contains saved settings and rules that one can use to sell a new subscription or package, or for use with a group charge (one time batch billing job). A template may be displayed to a customer on your Shop page, or it may be used internally to create a new order.
Shop Page
There are various fields and settings on your Edit Template page that allow you to tailor the Template appearance and Shop page behavior. The section at the top of your Template set up page is specific to the Shop Page, and those settings are covered separately in this article. Details specific to the "Template Settings" section on your Template set up page are discussed below.
Template Settings
-
Template Name: The name of the template.
- Fulfillment Method: Select the relevant fulfillment method for your subscription. If you select Shipping or Customer Choice (Pick-Up or Shipping) you have the option to add a shipping fee in the shipping fee field that appears below.
- Billing Frequency: If you wish to offer customers different billing options at checkout you may add additional billing frequency options (as shown in the image below). For example you may offer one billing frequency of $50.00 monthly, and a second billing frequency option of $550 annually. The Billing Frequency that the customer selects does not impact the subscription benefit frequency. For example if a subscription includes one $10 off discount per month and the customer enrolls in an annual billing plan, the customer will pay for one year upon enrolling but still receive their discount on a monthly schedule.
- Billing Timing: Set a rule to determine when customers are billed. You may choose to bill customers immediately or on a pre-set schedule (for example, always bill on the 5th of the month). Specific details and examples appear on the Templates page when you make a selection from this dropdown box.
- Expires After: If the subscription should be active for a limited number of cycles then uncheck the "Never Expires" checkbox and enter the number of cycles for which the subscription should be processed. Note that if you enter "1" in this field, the system will update the language associated with the Subscription to reflect that it is actually a one time purchase and not a subscription.
- Cancellation Rule: Confirm whether a customer may cancel the subscription directly, or must contact the business to cancel the subscription.
Line Item Benefits
You can define line item benefits on your Template to automate discounts or benefits for subscribers. There are various types of line item benefits that can be added.
- Product Line Items: There are multiple types of product line items that can be added to a Template. They are:
- Redeemable - Issue Coupon: Use this option to include a specific product or service that will be redeemed in the future by subscribers. For example a wine club that offers 1 free tasting per month can use this option to issue a coupon for the tasting. Or a spa membership that offers two massages per month can use this option to issue two coupons to each member towards the future redemption of a massage. Note that this only works if the redeemable item is a single product in your POS and it is discounted 100% for members. If there are multiple products/services that can be redeemed by members then you should use the Discount Line Item function to define the benefit (and potentially create an Item Set).
- Redeemable - Deduct Inventory: If you want to sell a specific product in your POS at the time that a member is billed then use this option. This will record a sale of the product in your POS and deduct inventory at the time that the charge is processed.
- Custom: A custom line item that is not linked to anything in your POS.
- One Time Fee: A fee that will apply only when a subscriber enrolls. This will be included only on the first invoice for a new subscriber/member.
- Discount Line Items: A discount line allows you to define a range of discounts that can apply for members. Discounts can be unlimited or have a set quantity. Please refer to the articles linked below for more information about discount types and options.
- Additional Line Item Options: There are various additional options that exist for line items. This includes:
- Sign Up Bonus: A benefit that will apply only when a customer signs up. Available only with discounts/benefits that have a defined quantity (an unlimited discount cannot be set as a sign up bonus). This can be accessed by clicking on the blue "Options" button on the right hand side of the line item.
- Birthday Benefit: A benefit that will apply for a subscriber's birthday. Learn more about Birthday Benefits.
- Quantity Discount (for example Case Discount): Applicable only on Unlimited discounts. This can be accessed by clicking on the blue "Options" button on the right hand side of the line item.
- Day of Week Discount: Applicable only on Unlimited discounts. This feature can be enabled via Expiration Dropdown > Valid Certain Day(s) of the Week. Add a check for each day that the discount should apply.
- Redeemable Online: If you sell via an integrated online store then you have the option to enable benefit redemption online by checking the "Redeemable Online" checkbox. This can be accessed by clicking on the blue "Options" button on the right side of the line item. This will only show as an option if you have enabled the online store setting under Settings > Business > Store Settings.
